With his best friends looking on, Peter accepted the Master’s challenge, hopped out of the boat and proceeded to walk straight toward Jesus. Walking on water was he; with his eyes fixed on Jesus. We don't know exactly how far or how many steps he took, but Peter was walking on water. As you may recall, when his focused moved off of the Lord and on to the surrounding wind and waves, he began to sink. Scripture tells us that Christ IMMEDIATELY reached out to Peter and caught him. Jesus didn't have to dive down under the surface, get him in a life saving position, swim with one arm until he could hoist him up to the waiting disciples. No resuscitation was required. Just in time, Jesus rescued Peter with dignity and grace. They walked together back to the boat and simply climbed in. Hanging out with Jesus has it’s benefits!
